Build Skills & Confidence at the Best Youth Volleyball Academy in Elkton, MD

Finding quality youth volleyball coaching in the Elkton, MD and tri-state area has always been a challenge for families. Most options boil down to school teams (limited spots, seasonal), recreation center programs (minimal coaching, mixed skill levels), or expensive travel clubs that demand year-round commitment and significant driving. There hasn’t been a middle option — professional coaching with a structured curriculum that’s accessible to families in Cecil County and the surrounding areas.

The Volleyball Academy at LevelUP Sports was built to fill that gap. Expert coaching, safe indoor courts, structured skill development, and a program designed to meet young players exactly where they are — whether they’ve never touched a volleyball or they’re preparing for competitive tryouts.

Three Tiers: Every Player Starts Where They Are

We don’t throw beginners into advanced drills, and we don’t hold back experienced players with basics they’ve already mastered. Our program is structured into three tiers based on age and skill level, each with its own curriculum and coaching focus.

Beginner Tier (Ages 8–11). This is where the foundation gets built. Players in this tier learn the four fundamental skills of volleyball: passing (the bump), setting, serving, and hitting. Every drill is designed to be fun, active, and age-appropriate. We use modified nets (lower heights), lighter balls for younger players, and plenty of games and competitions to keep energy high. The primary goal is developing coordination, basic technique, and a genuine excitement for the sport. By the end of a 10-week session, beginner players can sustain rallies, serve consistently, and understand basic court positioning.

Development Tier (Ages 12–14). Players in this tier have the basics down and are ready for more advanced skill work and tactical understanding. The curriculum focuses on refining passing platform angles for accuracy, developing a reliable overhand serve, learning approach hitting (the 3-step approach), and introducing blocking fundamentals. We also begin teaching rotational play — understanding the six positions on the court and how to move through them efficiently. This tier bridges the gap between recreational play and competitive readiness.

Competitive Prep Tier (Ages 15–17). This is our most intensive tier, designed for players who are preparing for school team tryouts, club volleyball, or who simply want to compete at a higher level. The coaching focuses on advanced skills: jump serving, back-row attacking, defensive systems, transition offense, and reading opponent patterns. We run extensive match simulation so players develop game IQ — understanding when to tip versus swing, where to serve to exploit weak passers, and how to communicate effectively with teammates under pressure.

Expert Coaching: Coach Viktor

The quality of coaching defines the quality of the program, and our volleyball program is led by Coach Viktor, whose credentials set our academy apart from any other option in the region.

Coach Viktor is a Ukrainian First League medalist with over 20 years of competitive volleyball experience. He played at the highest domestic level in Ukraine, a country with a strong volleyball tradition that has produced Olympic-level players. He brings more than 6 years of dedicated coaching experience on top of his playing career.

What makes Coach Viktor exceptional isn’t just his playing background — it’s his ability to connect with young athletes. He has a gift for breaking complex movements into simple, memorable cues that kids internalize quickly. His coaching is demanding but encouraging. He pushes players to improve while celebrating their effort and progress along the way.

Coach Viktor uses video review as a regular coaching tool. Players are filmed during drills and scrimmages, and the footage is reviewed together so each athlete can see exactly what they’re doing right and what needs adjustment. Seeing yourself on video is one of the most powerful learning tools in sports, and it’s a standard part of our academy experience.

Safe Indoor Courts, Year-Round Training

Our facility features dedicated indoor volleyball courts with regulation nets, professional-grade flooring, and a climate-controlled environment that allows training 12 months a year.

Professional flooring. The court surface matters enormously for youth athletes. Our flooring provides consistent bounce, appropriate grip for lateral movement, and impact absorption that protects growing joints. This isn’t a gymnasium hardwood floor — it’s sport-appropriate flooring designed for the jumping, diving, and lateral movements that volleyball demands.

Regulation equipment. Net heights are adjusted for age groups (lower for younger players, regulation for competitive prep). Balls are age-appropriate — lighter volleyballs for the youngest players, standard competition balls for the development and competitive tiers. Proper equipment from day one means players develop timing and technique that translates directly to competitive play.

Climate-controlled environment. Training never gets cancelled due to weather. Sessions run on schedule every week, which is critical for skill development. Consistency is the single most important factor in athletic improvement, and our indoor facility guarantees it.

What Players Learn: Skills That Transfer to Every Court

Our curriculum covers every aspect of volleyball development, structured to build progressively over each 10-week session.

Passing. The foundation of everything in volleyball. We drill platform angle, body positioning, and movement to the ball until passing becomes instinctive. A team that passes well controls the game — it’s that simple.

Serving. From underhand serves for beginners to jump serves for advanced players, we develop consistent, reliable serving that puts opponents under pressure from the first contact of every rally.

Setting. The finesse skill that unlocks offensive potential. Players learn hand positioning, footwork to the ball, and decision-making (who to set, when, and why). Good setters are the quarterbacks of volleyball, and we develop that awareness early.

Hitting. Approach footwork, timing, arm swing mechanics, and shot selection. We teach players to hit with purpose — placing the ball strategically rather than just swinging hard and hoping. A controlled hit to an open zone beats a powerful hit into a block every time.

Rotations and game IQ. Understanding the flow of the game — where to stand, when to move, how to transition from defense to offense — is what separates competent players from smart ones. We weave tactical understanding into every session so it becomes second nature.

School Tryout Preparation

One of the most common reasons families enroll in our academy is school team tryout preparation. Whether your child is trying out for a middle school or high school team, our development and competitive prep tiers directly address the skills that coaches evaluate during tryouts.

We run specific tryout preparation modules in the weeks leading up to local school tryout periods. These include simulated tryout drills, conditioning for the fitness requirements, and mental preparation for performing under the pressure of evaluation. Our academy players consistently perform well at school tryouts because they’ve practiced these exact scenarios in training.

Serving Elkton, Newark, Middletown, and Wilmington

Our youth volleyball players come from across the tri-state area. Here’s what the drive looks like from surrounding communities:

Elkton, MD: Local — 5 minutes or less. Newark, DE: approximately 20 minutes via I-95 or Route 279. Middletown, DE: approximately 15 minutes via Route 301. Wilmington, DE: approximately 30 minutes via I-95 South. Bear and Glasgow, DE: approximately 20–25 minutes.

The combination of professional coaching, dedicated courts, and structured programming makes the drive worthwhile for families who want more than what local rec center programs can offer.

Get Started with a Free Trial

We believe the best way to evaluate any youth sports program is to experience it firsthand. That’s why we offer a free trial session for every new player. Your child will participate in a full academy session — warm-up, skill drills, coached scrimmage — and you’ll get to watch the coaching in action.

No equipment needed. No commitment required. Just athletic clothing, court shoes, and a willingness to try something new.
