Cricket is the fastest-growing youth sport in America, and for good reason. It develops hand-eye coordination, strategic thinking, teamwork, and physical fitness in a way few other sports can match. But for families in the Maryland, Delaware, and Pennsylvania tri-state area, finding proper youth cricket coaching has always been the challenge. Park fields with uneven bounces, volunteer coaches with limited technical knowledge, and programs that shut down every winter.
That changed when BRSS Cricket Academy — North America’s largest cricket academy — partnered with LevelUP Sports & Athletics Club to bring world-class youth cricket training to Elkton, MD. For the first time, young players in this region have access to professional-grade indoor facilities and coaches who’ve competed at the highest levels of international cricket.
Who Is This Program For?
Our youth cricket program serves players ages 6 through 16, with sessions structured for three developmental stages.
Beginners (ages 6–9). Kids with little or no cricket experience. At this stage, the emphasis is entirely on fun, basic motor skills, and gentle introduction to batting, bowling, and fielding fundamentals. We use soft balls, shorter pitches, and modified games to make the sport accessible and enjoyable. The goal is simple: your child should leave every session excited to come back.
Development players (ages 9–13). Players who understand the basics and are ready for more structured technical coaching. This is where we introduce proper batting technique (stance, grip, footwork, shot selection), bowling mechanics (run-up, delivery stride, seam position), and fielding skills (catching, ground fielding, throwing accuracy). Sessions follow a progressive curriculum that builds week over week.
Competitive players (ages 13–16). Young athletes preparing for representative cricket, school teams, or league play. The coaching at this level includes advanced batting (playing pace and spin, building an innings), advanced bowling (variations, field setting, match plans), and match simulation with tactical coaching. These players are developing the skills and cricket IQ they’ll need to compete at the highest youth levels.
The Coaching Team: IPL Veterans and International Cricketers
The quality of coaching your child receives is the single biggest factor in their development. Our coaching team brings credentials that are genuinely extraordinary for a youth program in this region.
Sarbjeet Ladda is the lead batting coach at BRSS Cricket Academy. He played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Gujarat Lions, and Delhi Daredevils. He won the Major League Cricket (MLC) Championship. When your child learns batting technique at LevelUP, they’re learning from someone who faced the best bowlers on the planet in the biggest cricket league in the world.
Sarbjeet doesn’t just demonstrate — he diagnoses. He can watch a young batter face three balls and identify exactly what’s limiting their shot-making. His IPL-level understanding of batting mechanics means he teaches techniques that scale from backyard cricket to international competition.
Muhammad Asif is our lead bowling coach. He represented Pakistan at the international level as a fast bowler. Pakistani fast bowling is arguably the most storied tradition in cricket history, and Asif brings that lineage directly to our academy. He teaches young bowlers the art of seam bowling: wrist position, seam presentation, how to generate swing, and how to build pressure over an entire spell rather than bowling one good ball at a time.
Ravi Inder Singh Mehra is our fundamentals and junior development coach. He played first-class cricket in India, which is the highest level of domestic competition — equivalent to Triple-A baseball in the American context. Mehra has a particular gift for working with younger players. He takes complex technical concepts and breaks them into simple, actionable steps that 8-year-olds can follow and remember. Parents consistently tell us that Mehra is the coach who made cricket “click” for their child.
The Facility: Climate-Controlled Indoor Nets
Weather cancellations are the enemy of consistent development. When outdoor training shuts down from October through April, players lose half a year of progress. Our indoor facility solves that problem permanently.
Full-length cricket nets. Our net lanes are full-length, giving batters and bowlers the genuine feel of playing on a proper pitch. The consistent, flat surface means the ball bounces predictably, allowing young players to develop technique without the frustration of uneven park surfaces.
Professional bowling machines. Our bowling machines deliver consistent pace, length, and line. For batting development, this is transformative. A young batter can face 50 identical deliveries in 15 minutes, building the muscle memory that creates instinctive shot-making. Coaches can adjust speed, length, and angle to challenge players progressively as their skills develop.
Climate-controlled environment. Training happens year-round at a comfortable temperature. No heat exhaustion in August. No frozen fingers in January. No rain delays ever. For families planning their schedules, this means training sessions happen on time, every time.
What a Typical Youth Session Looks Like
Every session follows a structured plan, but the energy is always fun and engaging. Here’s what your child can expect:
Dynamic warm-up (10 minutes). Cricket-specific movement patterns that prepare the body for batting, bowling, and fielding. Lateral shuffles, throwing progressions, and catching games that double as warm-up activities.
Skill focus (20 minutes). Each session targets a specific skill. The coach demonstrates, explains the key technical points, and then players practice with direct coaching feedback. For batting, this might mean working on the cover drive with throwdowns. For bowling, it might mean perfecting the delivery stride with a walk-through progression before moving to full-speed bowling.
Net practice (20 minutes). Batters face deliveries from coaches, bowling machines, or peers. Bowlers work on their accuracy and variations against live batters. The coach moves between stations, providing real-time corrections and encouragement.
Game scenario or competition (10 minutes). Every session ends with something competitive and fun. “Last ball, need 6 runs to win” batting challenges. Bowling accuracy competitions. Fielding relay races. These activities reinforce the session’s skills while building the competitive instinct that young athletes need.
Building Confidence, Not Just Skills
Technical cricket skills are only part of what we develop. Every session is designed to build your child’s confidence. We celebrate effort and improvement, not just results. A batter who gets out playing a correct shot gets praised for the technique. A bowler who lands the ball in the right area but gets hit for runs gets recognized for the quality of the delivery.
This approach creates young players who are willing to try new things, who don’t fear failure, and who develop a genuine love for the sport that sustains them through the inevitable frustrations of learning. Confident kids practice more, compete harder, and stay in the sport longer.
Serving Families Across the Tri-State Area
Our youth players come from across the region. Families drive from Newark, DE (20 minutes), Wilmington, DE (30 minutes), Middletown, DE (15 minutes), Bear, DE, and throughout Cecil County, MD. The consistent quality of coaching and the year-round indoor facility make the drive worthwhile for families who are serious about their child’s development.
Several of our families have children in multiple sports at LevelUP, combining cricket with badminton, baseball, or our Kids Agility program. The multi-sport approach develops well-rounded athletes, and having everything under one roof makes scheduling manageable for busy families.
Free Trial Sessions
We know that choosing a sports program for your child is a significant decision. That’s why we offer free trial sessions for every new family. Your child gets a full session experience — warm-up, coaching, net practice, and a game scenario — with no commitment required. All equipment is provided. Just bring athletic clothing and closed-toe shoes.
The trial session also gives you a chance to meet the coaches, see the facility, ask questions, and watch your child interact with the program. Most families know within one session whether this is the right fit.
